ComboFix can remove malware deeply rooted in your system. It is very thorough, scanning your computer for anything and everything that could be a virus, and then removing it. It is totally automated, offering you no user input. Once started all you have to do is walk away – don’t worry it will give you a log of its actions when finished.
Who you gonna call?
In the fight against malware, sometimes traditional antivirus and anti-spyware tools are not enough. To combat some rootkits and viruses you must use a specialized tool like ComboFix.
To use ComboFix all you have to do is download it onto your desktop. Then, after shutting down all of your programs and turning off any virus scanners you may have running, double click to run (just like in this video). From there the process is almost entirely automated as it deletes everything suspicious.
The analysis can take several minutes, but in that time you can be sure that it will be zapping any malevolent items on your computer. After the analysis, you have to restart your PC so the changes are applied. Once it completes the final steps, it will show you a log of everything it has done.
ComboFix is your PC’s nuclear response (providing you are running Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 – it is not yet Windows 8.1 compatible). It is a last resort, once its running you are out of the picture, and any changes it makes are irreversible. But it does work as intended – even if running it is a little nerve racking.
A dramatic response
ComboFix is an aggressively deep clean for emergency situations.
